Education and Literacy Studies
Literacy Learner Analysis Project Course: TE846 Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners I chose to work with a five year old literacy learner from my previous class. I pre-assessed her current literacy abilities, created and implemented focused literacy instruction using researched best practices, and assessed her growth within these concepts. This demonstrates my ability to choose assessments, use assessments, and differentiate instruction with literacy learners.
Educational Inquiry Essay Course: ED800 Concepts of Educational Inquiry I studied various profound educators and leaders throughout history. Within this essay, I studied Vivian Paley and learned about the importance of being a reflective educator. To be a reflective educator, it is important to reflect on oneself by using different forms of writing and communication with other educators. This demonstrates my ability to reflect on myself as an educator and change/adapt to become better.
Leadership Studies
Leadership Theory Graphic Organizer Course: EAD801 Leadership and Organizational Development There are many different leadership theories that have been researched, experienced, and adapted throughout time. I have evaluated various theories and sorted through the theories that I agree and disagree with. I created graphic organizers that help me create and refine my own leadership style. This demonstrates my ability to analyze leadership theories and distinguish my own leadership style.
Analysis Paper Course: EAD801 Leadership and Organizational Development In this paper, I analyzed a director of a school using different leadership theories. I was able to identify if the director was an effective or ineffective leader. I also offered suggestions on how the director could be a better leader. I compare this leader to myself and analyze how I can use her experience to help me grow as a leader. This demonstrates my ability to analyze other educators and adapt my own leadership style to become a better leader.
Career Development Case Study Course: EAD864 Adult Career Development There are many different paths people take when it comes to adult career development. There are common themes, for example, going to college, getting a first job, and becoming more proficient over time. I studied Steve Job's career development and analyzed his unconventional leadership style. After learning about different leaders, I then can refine myself as a leader and focus on my career development. This demonstrates my ability to reflect and refine my own leadership style.

Teacher Interview Course: TE822 Issues of Culture in Classroom and Curriculum To become a better educator, it is imperative to observe and learn from other teachers. For this course, I interviewed one of my previous classmates from my internship year. This classmate is dedicated on being a culturally responsive teacher. During the interview he provided many examples of the problems he notices in education today and what he does to provide a multicultural environment for his students. I strive to continue learning and growing as an educator, and one of the ways I do this is by learning from other teachers. This demonstrates my ability to question, learn, and grow from other educators.
Engaging Diverse Families PowerPoint Course:EAD822 Engaging Diverse Students and Families I worked with a team of classmates (Haigan Tcholakian, Heather Hooppaw, Maddie Cole, Erica Wideman, and Sarah Schemanske) to develop a PowerPoint that exemplifies how to engage diverse families in educational communities. We used different research and theories to demonstrate the best practices that educators can use to become a more culturally responsive teacher. This demonstrates my progress in becoming a culturally responsive eduator.
Deficit Thinking Research Paper Course: EAD822 Engaging Diverse Students and Families Using my own experience, I had to find a problem that was evident to me at one of the schools I have worked at. I pinpointed the deficit thinking happening within a school community, used research to prove the harmful effects, and provided an action plan. This research paper strengthened my abilities as a teacher, leader, and cultural responsive educator. This demonstrates my abilities in questioning and being aware of the injustices happening in school systems.
